Medical Examinations can be arranged for various times during the week and will require a half an hour appointment. Please note the a fee will be charged for this examination.

These are intended only for patients who are unable, because of their medical condition, to attend the surgery. Where possible a home visit should be requested before 10.00 am. Please be prepared to give brief details of the problem so that you can be given appropriate priority. It is possible that the duty doctor of the day will contact you by telephone prior to the visit in order to access the urgency of the visit.

Patient Registration

See: Department of Health guidance on Patient Registration
See: Practice Area

It is advisable to call the surgery to check if they are accepting new patients.

How to register:

Please bring your medical card along to the surgery and hand it to reception. If you do not have a card, don't worry. Provided you are residing within our Practice area and we are accepting new patients, you will be asked to complete a registration form. Simply fill in Form GMS1 ("Family Doctor Services Registration") which is available at reception. (If you wish, you may also choose to fill in an Organ Donor Registration form).

You can download these forms on-line by clicking on the following links. These documents are in PDF format. You may need to download and install a free application called "Adobe Reader" to open these files.

Download the permanent patient registration form - GMS1
Download the temporary resident registration form - GMS3
Download the new-born baby registration form - FP58

You will then be asked to make an appointment for a New Patient Registration check. This is a standard check that gives us a chance to meet you and to get some basic information (height, weight, family medical history etc) onto our clinical computer system. Not only does this help us to understand your medical needs, but it also allows us to plan what services are most suitable for all our patients. You will also be asked to provide a urine sample at the time of this appointment. This will be tested for protein and sugar.

Why do surgeries run late?

No-one likes to be kept waiting and doctors dislike being put under extra pressure because they are behind, so why do surgeries run late? Sometimes the reason is easy - the doctor got stuck in traffic or our computers have crashed! Other times its more complex - a distressed patient that needed extra time, an emergency that required immediate action, an elderly patient who needs assistance, to name but a few reasons.

However, the single biggest reason why we run late is because patients bring lists of problems. Often, this is simply a misunderstanding that it is helpful to save up lots of problems and get them all sorted in one go.

Please remember, one appointment is for one problem. Please request longer appointments or make further appointments to discuss extra topics.
